FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURALISM THEORY APPEARED IN THE SIX DIRECTIONS TEACHING

Abstract

The purposes of this article were as follows: 1) to study the functional structuralism theory; 2) to study the teaching of six directions; and 3) to study the functional structuralism theory appeared in the teaching of six directions. This article was a documentary study. The results of this study were as follows. The functional structuralism theory described the characteristics of society based on the assumption that the society was like a living organism but a high level of organism. This theory explained social solidarity because of various components of society that came together as a social structure. Each component of the society was obliged to act according to its role. The teaching of six directions indicated the relationship of the various types of persons involved as the six surrounding directions including: to the front; to the back; to the right; to the left; to the above; and to the below. The functional structuralism theory appeared in the teaching of six directions reflected: the stratified relationship system; maintenance of balanced relationship; and action according to the role of members to respond the needs of society. Persons might have several roles based on the level of relationship that reflected social institutions.
