The Influencing Factors of the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Operational Prevention of the Village Health Volunteers, Ban Laem District, Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

This cross-sectional survey aims to study 1) the level of leading, contributing, and additional or supporting factors; 2) the level of dengue fever prevention operations; and 3) the influent factors of dengue fever prevention operations of village health volunteers (VHV). The 208 VHV was selected by stratified sampling. Data was collected by questionnaires, which were examined by three experts, then analysed using descriptive statistics and multiple stepwise regression statistics. The findings showed that most participants have good knowledge about Dengue fever prevention and have an attitude towards it at an improved level. The sufficiency of resources is at the level that needs to be improved, and the skill in resource usage is at a moderate level. The additional factors or supporting factors in terms of social support and motivation are at a level that needs to be improved. The prevention operations of dengue fever among VHV as whole image were moderate. The influent factors in dengue fever’s prevention among VHV were motivation, skills in resource usage, receiving training or meetings (sometimes), never receiving training or meetings, and social support, which can explain the variation in dengue fever prevention operations of VHV by 59.0% with statistical significance (p-value < 0.01).  Therefore, the Ministry of Public Health should apply the health promotion planning model by creating incentives and social support for VHV to prevent dengue fever more effectively. Moreover, community nurses should enhance their skills in using resources and organise training programmes for VHV to prevent dengue fever in the community.
