Risk Factors Affecting Dementia among Older Adults in Bana Health Promoting Hospital, Mueang District, Pattani Province

This descriptive and cross-sectional study aims to study risk factors affecting dementia among older adults in Bana Health Promoting Hospital, Mueang District, Pattani Province, among 2,456 elderly people. The instrument was a secondary study from the HDC database, Pattani Provincial Public Health Office. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and data analysis for association between the independent variable and the dependent variable with the chi-squared test. Logistic regression was used to investigate factors associated with dementia. The study found that older adults with dementia represented 2.4 percent, while 97.6 percent did not have dementia. Factors related to dementia with statistical significance (p-value < 0.05) consist of individual factors, including gender, age group, religion, body mass index, and health factors including activities of daily living (ADL) and movement. Factors affecting dementia were activities of daily living (ADL). The elderly who were homebound and bedridden had a 4.61 times higher risk of dementia than those who were socially addicted.
