The Effectiveness of Herbal Poultice for Knee Pain Relief from Osteoarthritis of the People Ban Khuan Khiam Yan Ta Khao District, Trang Province

Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a major public health problem both globally and nationally and the area responsible for Ban Khuan Khiam Health Promoting Hospital. Reports of people receiving Thai traditional medicine services with knee pain, there are up to 60 percent. We has invented a recipe for herbal knee wraps with the introduction of herbs that are local to make a hot herbal poultice. Effective in reducing muscle and joint pain. Study it is a Quasi-Experimental Research. Intended for Study the effectiveness of herbal poultice on the relief of knee pain from osteoarthritis of Ban Khuan Khiam people Yan Ta Khao District, Trang Province. Data collection period January - March 2021. Select specific sample group 40 people divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group, match with similar characteristics 20 people per group. The instrument used was the Thai version of the Modified WOMAC assessment form. The experiment was performed 3 times, each time 20 minutes. Pain levels were measured before and after each experiment. General data were analyzed by statistical percentage, the mean pain scores of each group before and after using Pair t-test, Compare the mean pain scores between the groups before and after, independent t-test was used. The study found that the mean pain scores of the experimental group after the 3 experiments were significantly lower than before the experiment, (p-value < 0.001). Mean pain scores of the experimental group and the control group after the experiment. There was a statistically significant difference (p-value < 0.001).
