Factors associated with Oral Health Care Behavior among Elderly in Cham Rak Sub-district, Mueang District, Trat Province

Abstract

The objectives of this cross-sectional descriptive research were to study the oral health care behavior and the relationship between personal characteristics and potential factors and oral health care behavior of the elderly in Cham Rak Sub-district, Muang District, Trat Province. The participants were 201 elderly. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaire. The statistical methods used to analyze include frequency, percentage, average score, standard deviation and Chi-square test. The majority of respondents were male 62.2%, their age ranged from 60 – 64 years old 73.6%, majority were Buddhism 84.1%, were married 62.2%, their education level is the highest, in junior high school 35.8%, work as business owner 26.9%, their high level of oral health care knowledge 63.7%, oral health care attitude was 57.2% and there was a moderate level of dental care deportment 63.7%. The result found that gender, occupation, attitude were significantly associated with the oral health care behavior (p-value < 0.05). According to the finding, it is recommended that oral health care provider and relevant personnel should be reinforce their positive attitude towards oral hygiene for the elderly for prevention and awareness of oral health care in the elderly people.
