Cosplay: The Expression of Identity in Multicultural Societies and the Integration of Knowledge for Teaching Social Studies, Religion and Culture at Potisarn Pittayakorn School, Taling Chan District, Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to 1) investigate the body of knowledge on cosplay: the expression of identity in the multicultural society of Taling Chan, Bangkok and 2) integrate the teaching of social studies, religion, and culture at Potisarn Pittayakorn School, Taling Chan. The population and sample group were specifically selected, including 1) experts, 2) practitioners, and 3) the general public. The research employed qualitative cultural methods, using tools such as surveys, interviews, observations, focus group discussions, and workshops.

            The results showed that:- 1) cosplay was a culture with a high degree of identity, independent of the primary social or cultural identity. It resulted from the consumption of diverse media, emphasizing distinctive attire and expression, reflecting subcultures where members shared certain values and interacted within the multicultural society. Over the past few years, cosplay gained considerable attention and acceptance from the broader society. 2) The integration of teaching in social studies, religion, and culture at Potisarn Pittayakorn School, Taling Chan, included two parts: Part 1: Plan Creation Studying and analyzing documents, Conducting area surveys,Planning, Documenting the plan Part 2: Plan Development Action research, which involved four steps: Planning before activities, Conducting activities, Observing during activities, Reflecting on the activities.The expected learning outcomes were that students gained knowledge and understanding of cosplay: the expression of identity in the multicultural society, leading to the acceptance of new ideas and the ability to coexist peacefully in society.
