SDG4 Learning Concepts Education for Sustainable Goals

Abstract

            The United Nations has set sustainable development objectives for its member states to achieve these development goals by 2030. This article attempts to clarify the importance of the issues raised, particularly the concept of education as a means to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4). All sectors are committed to development. Therefore, it is necessary to prioritize educational initiatives. Educational administration must be effective and of high quality, which will enhance the capacity of human resources, which is the key to the progress of society. Countries must achieve sustainable development while maintaining a consistent relationship with their cultural heritage. Therefore, to drive effective development initiatives, comprehensive education reforms must be carried out in all sectors, since the capacity of education acts as a determinant of the quality of the population within the country, which subsequently influences sustainable development in many dimensions. Education reform initiatives must include 1) restructuring and improving the system of education management; 2) curriculum modification; 3) changes in teacher preparation and professional development; 4) innovation in teaching methods; and 5) reform of measurement and assessment of learners’ learning. Measurement and assessment, which serve as the foundation for these reforms, are learner-focused and prepared to enhance 21st century skills and are in line with the sustainable development approach.
