The Sufficiency Economy According to the Niyama 5 Framework in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy

Abstract

            This article studies the Sufficiency Economy According to the Niyama 5 Framework in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy. The findings reveal that individuals interested in the philosophy of the Sufficiency Economy in Thailand have studied and attempted to understand it, particularly through its definitions for practical application. Theravada Buddhist philosophy divides the Five Niyamas into Utu Niyama, Bija Niyama, Citta Niyama, Kamma Niyama, and Dhamma Niyama, to help explain various phenomena. Each person may interpret these Niyamas differently, leading to diverse interpretations of the Sufficiency Economy philosophy. Viewing the Sufficiency Economy through the lens of only one Niyama has both advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, a holistic approach should be adopted, as introduced by this academic article: “A Holistic View of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy through the Five Niyamas.” This system-based approach to understanding the Five Niyamas holistically will contribute to the development of quality of life in all aspects.
