Abstract

The concept of belief in the Naga and the ethics of the Naga in Theravada Buddhism The concept of belief in the Naga Its developmental basis comes from two traditional Indian concepts: 1) Brahman Dhamma who saw that the Naga was born from the creation of the gods 2) the line of monks who saw that the Naga was born from karma and the results of their actions As for the ethics of the Naga in Theravada Buddhism, there are 8 principles: keeping the uposatha precepts, practicing the precepts, acting honestly, practicing asceticism, giving alms, protecting the Buddha, and believing in Buddhism. and maintain Buddhism People's beliefs about the Naga in Nong Khai Province are divided into 2 groups: 1) those who believe in the Naga Because there is evidence in the Tripitaka Theravada Buddhist scriptures The history of the noble monks and teachers, the legend of the Naga, hearsay and real experiences. 2) Groups that do not believe in the Naga. Because it is caused by human ignorance. When encountering supernatural events So he thought to himself that it might actually exist. Guidelines for strengthening social ethics for the people through beliefs about the Nagas In Nong Khai Province, 3 aspects are: 1) strengthening ethics in oneself 2) strengthening ethics in the family 3) strengthening ethics in society, namely (1) using Buddhist principles to strengthen ethics, namely Sappurisadhamma 7, the Noble Eightfold Path and the Four Sangha Vatthu (2) Apply the principles of the Five Precepts to the law to strengthen ethics. It is the control of human behavior. Make society live in peace. (3) Apply moral principles to strengthen ethics.
