Abstract

The objectives of research were to 1) analyze the components of innovative teachers in primary schools, 2) develop a model for innovative teacher development in primary schools, and 3) evaluate the developed model. A mixed-methods research design was employed and conducted in three phases. In Phase 1, the components were analyzed through interviews with 23 experts and questionnaires administered to 480 primary school administrators selected through stratified random sampling. In Phase 2, the model was constructed and refined through a seminar involving 9 experts. In Phase 3, the developed model was evaluated by 18 experts. Data were analyzed using content analysis, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and exploratory factor analysis.

The research findings revealed that; 1) The innovative teacher development comprised seven components consisted of (1) enhancing the identity of innovative teachers, (2) developing a theoretical knowledge base toward the principles of educational innovation, (3) fostering research-based thinking in educational innovation, (4) creating and developing innovative learning management, (5) elevating learners’ competencies through creative assessment, (6) managing educational innovation according to contextual factors, and (7) building professional learning networks for innovative teachers. 2) The developed model consisted of inputs, processes, outputs and outcomes, feedback mechanisms, success conditions, and environmental factors, all of which were found to be appropriate. 3) The evaluation results indicated that the model was highly accurate, appropriate, feasible, and beneficial at the highest level.
