Abstract

This article aims to analyze and synthesize the direction of Thailand's space activities through the lens of Professor Dr. Apichai Puntasen's Theory of Buddhist Economics. Amidst the global transition into the "New Space Economy," characterized by intense commercial competition and profit maximization, developing nations face challenges regarding resource allocation efficiency and sustainability. This study proposes a paradigm shift from "Capitalism," which prioritizes capital and material growth, to "Wisdomism" (Panya-niyom), where wisdom serves as the primary factor of production. The analysis focuses on three key dimensions: (1) Production, emphasizing appropriate technology and the minimization of space debris; (2) Consumption, distinguishing between fundamental "Needs" and "Tanha" (Desire/Greed) to prioritize real value over artificial value; and (3) Infrastructure, specifically regarding the establishment of a spaceport, by applying the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy—moderation, reasonableness, and self-immunity through robust legal frameworks. The findings suggest that Thailand's space endeavors should not merely symbolize material ambition but must serve as instrumental tools for enhancing the quality of life and achieving "Shanti-suk" (Peaceful Happiness), the ultimate goal of true sustainable development.
