STUDY OF CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED AS NECESSARY FOR THE SECRETARY PERFORMANCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY OF RAJAMANGALA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY THANYABURI

Abstract
This research was aimed to study the core competencies necessary for the secretary performance in the 21st century of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT). Data were collected from 55 personnel – RMUTT executive secretaries under the President, Vice Presidents, Assistant Rectors, Deans, and Directors of Colleges/Offices/Divisions. Data were then analyzed by means of descriptive statistics in terms of percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
From the data analysis, it was found that the highly necessary competencies were knowledge and practical skills which included making appointments, followed by communication and coordination, meeting management, time management, summary of issues for executives, and public relations. In addition to knowledge and practical skills, personal characteristics were also found to be highly necessary. In this category, honesty was considered the highest, followed by working responsibility, human relations, decision-making, and personality and character aspects, while leadership was considered highly necessary. Other competencies which were also considered as highly necessary were the skills in using modern technology and foreign languages. Other competencies which were also found to be highly necessary were knowledge and skills in working which were put in the first rank,
followed by character capacity.
