#Blackpanterwaskilledinthailand : The Civil Social Movements in New Public Sphere

Abstract

This article aims to study the civil society movement through networks #blackpanterwaskilledinthailand. It is a qualitative research using textual analysis from news related to the campaign movement and using the concept of public sphere and the role of social media serve as a framework for understanding the phenomenon. The results of the study found that the #blackpanterwaskilledinthailand phenomenon reflects the civil struggle movement that began in the online public sphere (Social Media Public Sphere) before expanding its activities to the offline world (Physical Public Sphere). Public movement activities in both worlds are not separated from each other, but they coordinate and support each other (Hybrid Movements), resulting that the masses have more "power" to fight against state power and capitalist power.

While looking at the phenomenon #blackpanterwaskilledinthailand through the framework of the 4-dimensional role of public sphere, it was found that social media serves as an important mechanism for connecting people, actions and places in a harmonious way.
