The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Screenwriting and Storytelling Coursework
Main Article Content
Abstract
This academic article aims to present a framework for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically Large Language Models such as ChatGPT and Gemini, into the pedagogy of screenwriting and storytelling courses to enhance the creative competencies of higher education students. The content encompasses three primary dimensions of practical application: 1) Ideation and plotting through the lens of Combinatorial Creativity; 2) Character development and psychological dimensions using Role-play Simulation; and 3) Structural design through the Sequence Approach and the refinement of dialogue and narrative subtext.
The practical analysis indicates that systematic AI integration across three stages—Pre-writing, Production, and Reflection—effectively mitigates writer's block and improves the efficiency of structural logic analysis. However, the article highlights critical practical cautions, including the risks of AI hallucinations, fundamental skill regression due to over-reliance, and the necessity of preserving the author’s original voice. The article concludes that success in digital-age pedagogy depends on balancing the use of intelligent technology as a co-creative partner with human artistic decision-making to develop storytellers capable of adapting to technological evolution sustainably.
