THE PRINCIPLESOF HOUSEHOLD-LIFE OF MILLIONAIRE DHANAJAYA TAUGHT TO HIS DAUGHTER IN BUDDHISM

Abstract

This article aimed at the study on the principles of household-life living of Millionaire Dhanajaya taught to his daughter in Buddhism. It was found that 10 kinds of the teaching principles given by Millionaire Dhanajaya were the Dhamma puzzles, which he had taught to his daughter, Visakha before she married her husband and then left to live with the family of her husband. And she was also instructed about good etiquettes of a lady as the ways in practice of 10 kinds of the teaching principles for living her household life as a good wife. Therefore; it was necessary for her to conduct and conform to these principles for the peace and stability in her household-life living. The practices were taught as follows: 1) You should not take out the internal fire. 2) You should not take in the external fire. 3) You should give to only someone who gives. 4) You should not give to someone who does not give. 5) You should give to both who gives and who doesnot give, 6) Youshould sit with happiness,7) Youshould sleep with happiness, 8) You should consume with happiness, 9) You should worship the fire, and 10) You should venerate specific deity. 10 kinds of the teaching principles are regarded as the main points in supporting the stability of household-life living and the ways in such practices so that the household-life living or the family institution may be without conflicts. But they can strengthen love and harmony to encourage everyone to acknowledge the roles, duties and status of each of them. Then they can live their lives according to their duties as mentioned properly, no matter who they are: the adults of family, both parents of the spouses including life partners living their household life together, who are regarded as the heart: the spouse actually can build love, harmony and stability inside their family to impact the society entirely.
