IMPLEMENTING THE QUILLBOT APPLICATION TO DEVELOP ENGLISH TRANSLATION SKILLS AND CODE OF ETHICS OF APPLICATION USAGE: CASE STUDY OF THE EBC230 SUBJECT (INTRODUCTION TO TRANSLATION)

Abstract

The objective of this article is to study the QuillBot application in teaching students at the School of Liberal Arts, Sripatum University Khon Kaen Campus who are enrolled in the EBC230 (Introduction to Translation) course. It involves using QuillBot for both English to Thai and Thai to English translation. The results show that translations from English to Thai still require refinement for better readability and to make the text more understandable because the translation tool is not perfect. It is still incomprehensible, awkward or unclear, in some sentences. In the translation from Thai to English section, the tool can help checking the use of grammar, punctuations, and capitalization, but sentence structures are still not complete.  Therefore, the QuillBot application can be an assistant to make translation faster and more efficient, but translators still need to have sufficient English skills to use it to maximize the efficiency of this application. Additionally, it also emphasizes the ethics of applying applications to ensure the correctness and appropriateness of translations.
