บทคัดย่อ
This study examined the types of sentences used and the grammatical errors found in paragraph writing by second-year English major students at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University. The research focused on a sample of 20 paragraphs, selected through purposive sampling from a total population of 40 paragraphs submitted by the students. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative analysis of sentence and error frequencies with qualitative document analysis and a coding technique to interpret writing patterns. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions to identify the prevalence of sentence types and grammatical issues. The analysis revealed that simple sentences were the most frequently used across all paragraph types, reflecting a preference for clarity and ease of construction. Compound and complex sentences were more commonly used in reason paragraphs, indicating students' efforts to express more sophisticated ideas. Grammatical errors particularly in subject-verb agreement, verb tense, and sentence structure were prevalent, highlighting areas in need of instructional support. These findings underscore the importance of teaching a wider variety of sentence structures and addressing persistent grammatical issues to enhance students’ overall writing proficiency.
