Abstract

This research article has objectives as following: 1) to study the origins of the Mangalatthadīpanī scripture; 2) study the principles of relationship that appear in the Mangalatthad īpanī scripture; and 3) to analyze the principles of relationship that appear in the Mangalatthadīpanī scripture. This is a documentary research, collecting data from the Mangalatthadīpanī scripture, the Tripitaka, commentaries, related documents, and research. The data is analyzed and presented using descriptive methods. The results of research found that: The Mangalatthadīpanī scripture is a work of Phra Sirimangalacarya, a great scholar monk of Lanna, or present-day Chiang Mai province. The Mangalatthadīpanī scripture is a commentary explaining the Mangala Sutta from the Khuddakanikāya, Khuddakaptāha, and Khuddanikaya Suttanipāta of the Sutta Pitaka. It examines the relationship between sons and daughters and their parents, summarizing the duties of children according to the principle of "caring for their parents," such as providing for them. In return, parents show kindness and support to their children. Teaching good character, for example, and the conduct of husband and wife demonstrate respect, honor, and appreciation for each other. When both parties are satisfied with each other, it increases the chances of developing stronger love and bonds. Relatives are those related through both parents; if counted by blood, it includes those from greatgrandparents down to great-grandchildren. Worship, or veneration, is a purehearted act of respect and admiration, another important principle in human conduct and social interaction. The quality of wise speech is words that are well-spoken, beneficial, and pleasing to others. Generosity here refers to charity, which has three aspects, such as intentional generosity. Parents, for instance, are worthy of respect. Gratitude is doing good deeds to repay those who have been kind to us.
