Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop an instructional system based on the Cooperative Learning approach to enhance the learning enthusiasm and inquisitiveness of lower secondary school students in the learning area of Social Studies, Religion, and Culture under the educational service area of Chachoengsao Province. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) methodology by applying a seven-step process of educational innovation development. The sample consisted of five experts (one in educational technology and four in social studies education) and forty Grade 9 students from four schools selected through multistage random sampling. The research instruments included prototype materials, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and instructional system quality assessment tools. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean, percentage, standard deviation, and t-test. The research findings revealed that the developed cooperative learning-based instructional system was highly appropriate (mean = 3.92), comprising eight key components that systematically covered the cooperative learning process. Students’ knowledge construction behaviors after learning were significantly higher than before learning, with a post-test mean score of 2.69, compared to a pre-test mean of 1.98, indicating that the system effectively enhanced students’ learning enthusiasm and inquiry skills. Moreover, students reported a high level of satisfaction with the instructional process (mean = 4.16), particularly in the introduction stage (mean = 4.25). The expert validation results also confirmed that the instructional system was highly appropriate (overall mean = 4.14). In conclusion, the cooperative learning-based instructional system developed in this study is of high quality, practical for classroom implementation, and effective in fostering students’ learning enthusiasm and curiosity.
