Abstract

This research article aims to: 1) study the biography and background of Phra Rajavuddhajarn (Luang Pu Dul Atulo); 2) examine the teachings and meditation practices of Phra Rajavuddhajarn (Luang Pu Dul Atulo); and 3) analyze the essential doctrinal principles of Phra Rajavuddhajarn (Luang Pu Dul Atulo). This study employs qualitative research methodology, using field interviews for data collection, and analyzes the data through descriptive analysis.

The research findings revealed that: 1) Luang Pu Dul Atulo was one of the first senior disciples of Luang Pu Mun Bhuridatto, having been closely trained in Dhamma practice. He strictly observed the dhutanga practices and emphasized forest dwelling as a regular discipline. He was renowned for his rigorous approach to meditation practice, particularly in the contemplation of the mind. Possessing profound insight in Vipassanā, his responses to Dhamma questions were concise, impactful, and deeply expansive in meaning. Although he resided at Wat Burapharam for over 50 years, he maintained the dhutanga practices in their fullest form and became a principal pillar of the meditation tradition, excelling in the propagation of Buddhism through scriptural study, practice, and monastic administration. 2) His teachings and meditation methods were recorded by his disciples and compiled from his Dhamma sermons into published collections. His meditation practice followed the “Buddho” method in accordance with the principles of Satipaṭṭhāna. His teachings and meditation guidance can be classified into two major categories: (1) teachings based on the principles of bases of meritorious action (Puññakiriyāvatthu), and (2) teachings based on meditation practice principles. 3) The essential doctrinal principles of Luang Pu Dul can also be classified into two aspects: (1) Regarding the bases of meritorious action, he emphasized practice integrated with daily life and applicable for beneficial living; (2) Regarding meditation practice, he stressed that practitioners must diligently cultivate mindfulness and continuously remain aware of their own minds in order to attain true peace and wisdom.
