DEVELOPMENT OF THE SATTHIVIHARIKA POTENTIAL OF PRECEPTORS IN PHICHIT PROVINCE

Abstract

This research aims to: 1) study the potential of the disciples of abbots in Phichit province; 2) study the factors affecting the potential of the disciples of abbots in Phichit province; and 3) propose ways to develop the potential of the disciples of abbots in Phichit province. A mixed-methods research design was used. Quantitative research collected data from a sample of 354 monks, analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Qualitative research involved in-depth interviews with 22 key informants and focus group discussions with 10 monks to confirm the knowledge.

The research findings showed that:

1. The potential of the disciples of the abbots in Phichit Province comprises: 1) Education: Emphasizing the cultivation of attitudes and wisdom; 2) Training: Training disciples is considered a great way to enhance their knowledge and skills in their work, applying the principles of morality, concentration, and wisdom—teaching by example, demonstrating by example, and living by example; 3) Personal development: Training disciples to achieve mental tranquility. This is the overall picture of the potential development of the disciples of the abbots in Phichit Province.


2. Factors influencing the potential of the disciples of the abbot in Phichit Province include: 1) Physical cultivation: taking care of physical health and adapting to society; 2) Moral cultivation: developing virtuous conduct in body and speech; 3) Mental cultivation: developing the mind, which is a fundamental basis of behavior; and 4) Wisdom cultivation: receiving care and attention from the abbot as if he were a father, to create warmth and develop intellect alongside physical health.
