Abstract

This research article aimed to: (1) examine the Six Saraniya Dhammas as presented in the Buddhist scriptures; (2) assess the level of community participation in the development of the Bua Khao Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Kuchinarai District, Kalasin Province; and (3) develop guidelines for applying the Six Saraniya Dhammas to participatory community development. A mixed-methods research design was employed, integrating documentary research, quantitative surveys, and qualitative interviews. The quantitative sample comprised 368 residents of Bua Khao Subdistrict, while the qualitative data were obtained from 15 purposively selected key informants, including monks, community leaders, local officials, and residents.

Quantitative findings indicated that the overall level of community participation was high (𝑋̅ = 3.75, S.D. = 0.84). The highest to lowest mean scores were: participation in receiving benefits, monitoring and evaluation, implementation, and decision-making. The qualitative analysis suggested that the Six Saraniya Dhammas provide a practical ethical framework for strengthening unity, trust, and collaboration between the community and local administrative organizations, thereby contributing to sustainable community development.
