The Five Precepts: The Value of Life and Society

Abstract
The book, The Five Precepts: The Value of Life and Society, written by Phra Maha Suthit Aphakaro, Dr., interpreter believes that the structure of the book is appropriate with a proper division of content. The order of content presentation is clear. This book presents the principles of living together in a peaceful society, developing quality of life, managing and protecting good life together, free from destruction, harm, theft, murder, rape, deception, free from drugs and crime, a society that trusts each other and a society that supports the development of a flourishing life. The day when humans have a sense of goodness, rely on kindness, compassion and use intelligence as their strength, that day humans will be able to create good things for themselves, fellow humans, animals and all things in a commendable way.
Current Thai society is considered a difficult task in maintaining morality and ethics, the main factors in creating a livable society. Having the Five Precepts as the foundation of life alone will make individuals and society happy. Using the principles of the Five Virtues, namely, having kindness, intention to pursue honest occupations, respecting humanity and women, keeping the truth and friendship, and having intelligence to protect oneself, will make society livable. This means that the Five Precepts are already being observed in the current society.
