An Analysis of the Methods for the Explaining the Dhamma based on Somdej Phra Buddhagosajarn (P.A.payutto)

Abstract

          This research article has the following objectives: 1) to study the methods of explaining Dhamma in Theravada Buddhist philosophy, 2) to study the methods of explaining Dhamma according to the teachings of Somdej Phra Buddhaghosacariya (P.A. Payutto), and 3) to analyze the methods of explaining Dhamma according to the teachings of Somdej Phra Buddhaghosacariya (P.A. Payutto). It is a qualitative research, studying mainly the writings of Somdej Phra Buddhaghosacariya (P.A. Payutto), Tripitaka, commentaries and related documents, and presenting the research results using descriptive analysis.

         The research results found that:

         1. Methods of explaining Dhamma in Theravada Buddhist philosophy are as follows: 1) During the time of the Buddha, the Buddha used the method of spreading Dhamma by applying it to the geographical conditions, customs, traditions, etc. 2) Methods of explaining Dhamma, such as the story of a person by a person, etc., 3) The Puggaladitthana and dhammaditthana method. 4) Teaching focusing on a person. 5) Dhamma explanations are as follows: (1) conversation method, (2) Lecture method, (3) question-answering method and (4) laying down rules and regulations. 2. Methods of explaining Dhamma according to the teachings are as follows: 1) Explanation of the 5 Khandhas, which is a collection of various components. 2) Explanation of the 6 sense bases. 3) Explanation of the three characteristics, each components, all are composed of other components. 4) Explanation of Dependent Origination, 5) Explanation of Karma. 3. Analysis of methods of explaining Dhamma according to the teachings are as follows: 1) Methods of explaining the 5 Aggregates, such as distinguishing the actual conditions etc., 2) The method of explaining the 6 Sense-fields, such as according to the Buddha's words, etc., 3) The method of explaining the Three Characteristics , such as by the meaning of the Three Characteristics, etc., 4) The method of explaining the Dependent Origination, such as by citing the law or conditions, etc. 5) The method of explaining karma, namely, such as by the truth of nature, etc.
