THE EFFECTS OF USING THE SQ4R READING TECHNIQUE COMBINED WITH SKIMMING AND SCANNING TECHNIQUES TO ENHANCE ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS OF GRADE 6 STUDENTS

Abstract
The purposes of this study were 1) to compare Grade 6 students’ English reading comprehension skills before and after learning through the SQ4R reading technique combined with Skimming and Scanning, and 2) to investigate the students’ satisfaction with the use of these techniques. The sample consisted of 31 Grade 6 students from a primary school in Suphanburi Province who were enrolled in English subject during the second semester of the 2024 academic year. The sample was obtained using cluster random sampling with classrooms serving as the sampling unit. The research instruments included 1) Lesson plans 2) A reading comprehension test and 3) A satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and a dependent t-test.
The results of the study were as follows 1) The students’ English reading comprehension skills after learning with the SQ4R and skimming and scanning techniques were significantly higher than before learning at the .05 level. 2) The students' satisfaction with the SQ4R reading technique combined with skimming and scanning techniques was at the highest level.
