A Study of Mathematical Phenomena in the Greek Era and Their Application in Elementary Mathematics Teaching
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research titled “Mathematical Phenomena in the Greek Era and Their Application in Elementary Mathematics Education” aims to study the significance of mathematical concepts developed during the Greek era and to analyze approaches for applying these concepts in elementary mathematics teaching. This study employed documentary research methods by reviewing books, research articles, and academic documents related to the history and philosophy of mathematics. The findings reveal that mathematical concepts developed in the Greek era play a significant role in the development of modern mathematics. In particular, the ideas of Pythagoras emphasize the relationship of numbers, while Euclid contributed to the development of logical geometric systems, and Plato viewed mathematics as an essential tool for understanding the truth of nature. These concepts can be applied to elementary mathematics teaching through instructional activities that emphasize reasoning, discovery-based learning, and the connection between mathematics and real-life situations. Furthermore, integrating Greek mathematical ideas into classroom instruction can enhance students’ logical thinking skills, mathematical problem-solving abilities, and understanding of fundamental geometric concepts. The study indicates that incorporating historical and philosophical perspectives of mathematics can help develop effective instructional approaches that promote analytical thinking and deeper learning among elementary school students.
