This research examines the intellectual hero’s journey of Vibhishana and Mandodari in Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas through Joseph Campbell's monomythological framework. Unlike traditional heroes who emphasize armed struggle, these two characters exemplify the hero's journey through moral reasoning, ethical courage, and spiritual wisdom. This comparative analysis demonstrates how Tulsidas reinvents the character of Valmiki, positioning intellectual and moral conviction as a form of heroism comparable to physical heroism. Through textual analysis of the Sundarakanth and Lankakanth, this study reveals that both characters undergo archetypal stages of separation, initiation, and return, ultimately achieving liberation through viveka (discerning wisdom) and dhammā (righteousness).
