Educational Management based on the Principles of Sāraṇīyadhamma in Sunday Dhamma School

Abstract

This article aims to present educational management based on the principles of Sāraṇīyadhamma in Sunday Dhamma School, as a guideline for effective educational management benefiting students, and ensuring participatory management across all personnel to successfully propel the organization towards its goals.
The study found that the application of the 6 Sāraṇīyadhamma principles, namely 1) Mettākāyakamma (loving-kindness), 2) Mettāvacīkamma (compassion), 3) Mettāmanokamma (sympathetic joy), 4) Sādhāraṇabhogitā (sharing), 5) Sīlasāmaññatā (ethical conduct), and 6) Diṭṭhisamanyatā (stability), aligns with the educational management components of Sunday Dhamma School in five aspects: policy, personnel management, academic affairs, and finances. Emphasis is placed on personnel development as a core aspect, involving administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents participating in applying the 6 Sāraṇīyadhamma principles in managing their own work and conduct. This serves as a good model characterized by polite speech, good interpersonal relationships, responsibility, creativity, openness to others’ opinions, sacrifice, sharing, teamwork, adherence to organizational rules, goal-setting, and collaborative work towards achieving organizational objectives.
