THE DEVELOPMENT MODEL FOR AN INFORMATION SYSTEM TO MANAGE ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AT BAN PHUE VOCATIONAL COLLEGE

Abstract

The purpose of this research on the development model of an information system for academic administration at Ban Phue Vocational College is to: 1) study the current situation, problems, and needs in academic administration at Ban Phue Vocational College; 2) analyze and develop an information system for academic administration at Ban Phue Vocational College; and 3) design and develop the aforementioned information system for academic administration at Ban Phue Vocational College. This research utilizes the Research and evelopment methodology, conducted in 4 phases as follows 1. Study the Current Situation, Problems, and Needs Data was collected from 58 individuals, including administrators, work leaders, department heads, and teachers, along with interviews from nine experts.   2. Analyze Essential Needs A questionnaire was used along with a calculation of the Modified PNI index. The results indicated that the most urgent area of need was for dual vocational education (PNI = 0.35), followed by information services and library work, as well as educational media. 3. Design and Develop the Prototype Information System The system, boabec.com, was developed using the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process, integrated with an Agile approach to ensure flexibility and continuous improvement according to actual needs. 4. Test and Evaluate: Seven experts assessed the system's appropriateness and feasibility, while 19 actual users evaluated its usability.

Research Findings 

1) The current usage of information for managing academic affairs at the college was rated at a moderate level (µ = 3.33, σ = 0.94), while the desired state was rated high (µ = 4.27, σ = 0.98). Notably, areas like dual vocational education, information services, and educational media exhibited the highest ratings, indicating an urgent need for improved information system efficiency.

2) The prototype system boabec.com successfully integrated data from all six academic areas into a central database. It featured a user-friendly interface compatible with both computers and smartphones, and it provided 14 reporting functions, such as lesson schedules, grade reports, equipment data, and internship outcome reports, enhancing data management efficiency and reducing redundancy.

3) Evaluations by experts indicated that the system's appropriateness was rated very high (µ = 4.80, σ = 0.20), covering all aspects of academic work and demonstrating significant potential for effective practical application.

4) Feedback from actual users revealed that the system significantly improved work efficiency, reduced errors, and supported academic decision-making. User satisfaction was rated high to very high (µ = 4.60–4.80).
