Abstract

This article aims to analyze the definitive interpretation of Phanthurat Ogress's roles in the Sang Thong performance. The study results indicate that Nang Phanthurat, who appears in the Sang Thong performance, plays two important roles: 1. As a queen, she is a leader who rules the giant city in place of her late husband, demonstrating strong leadership, governance skills, and a sense of responsibility as a ruler. 2. As a mother, Nang Phanthurat exhibits love and compassion for Phra Sang. Her maternal role is crucial in the drama "Sangthong," providing a plot that allows the main character, Phra Sang, to acquire knowledge, magical items, and spells to solve various problems, aligned with the core storyline. This maternal portrayal is delivered through a delicate performance, incorporating traditional Thai dance moves and the actress's unique techniques to express deep love, concern, and sadness, especially when Phra Sang attempts to run away. These two vital roles make Nang Phanthurat                a complex character—both a powerful giant and a loving mother. When performed in the play Sangthong, the scene where Phra Sang flees from Nang Phanthurat highlights the different facets of her character more clearly.
