BRAHMAVIHARN DHAMMA AND DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS OF POLICE OFFICERS

Abstract

This article analyzes the correlation between the four Brahmaviharas in Buddhism and the desirable characteristics of Thai police officers. It focuses on the application of these principles to enhance morality, ethics, and a positive attitude in performing their duties. The analysis indicates that when police officers adhere to the principles of Metta (loving-kindness), Karuna (compassion), Mudita (sympathetic joy), and Upekkha (equanimity), it leads to building trust and faith from the public, reducing conflicts, and promoting a positive image of the police organization in society.

The article also suggests guidelines for developing the personality, attitude, and mindset of police officers, emphasizing the training of the mind to have loving-kindness, compassion, and justice so that police officers can perform their duties efficiently, transparently, and be a true refuge for the people. It also emphasizes the importance of impartiality, careful discretion, and adherence to the principles of correctness to build confidence in the justice system.
