Needs for Developing Information Technology Competency of School Administrators under Khon Kaen Secondary Educational Service Area Office

Abstract

This research objectives aimed to 1) examine the current state and the desirable state of information technology competency development of school administrators, and 2) examine the needs for the development of information technology competency of school administrators under the Khon Kaen Secondary Educational Service Area Office. The sample consisted of 84 school administrators and 270 teachers. The research instrument used for data collection was a five-level rating scale questionnaire. The content validity index was 1.00, and the overall reliability coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.98. The statistical methods used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the modified Priority Needs Index (PNI modified).

          The findings revealed that

1. the current state of information technology competency development of school administrators was overall at a high level in all aspects. When considered by individual aspects, leadership and vision recorded the highest mean score, whereas support, promotion, and management of technology showed the lowest mean score. The desirable state of information technology competency development of school administrators was overall at the highest level. When examined by individual aspects, support, promotion, and management of technology demonstrated the highest mean score, while support for learning management recorded the lowest mean score.
2. The overall priority needs index for the development of information technology competency of school administrators was 0.138. The priority needs, ranked from highest to lowest, were as follows: support for learning management, knowledge and use of technology, ethics, law and security, support, promotion and management of technology, leadership and vision.
