Abstract
This research aimed to: 1) study the concepts of quality of life development in Tha Maduea Community, Tha Maduea Subdistrict, Bang Kaeo District, Phatthalung Province; 2) examine the principles of Sangahavatthu IV as appeared in Buddhist scriptures; and 3) apply the principles of Sangahavatthu IV to enhance the quality of life of the community. This study employed a qualitative research approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 20 key informants selected by purposive sampling, including monks, community leaders, and community representatives. The data were analyzed using content analysis and presented through descriptive analysis.
Findings were as follows:
- The Sangha administration in Pak Phayun District, Phatthalung Province, operates through a structured ecclesiastical framework, prioritizing senior leadership, systematic temple management, monastic welfare, and inter-agency collaboration. While the current administration is characterized by organized cooperation, further enhancement of internal communication and participatory governance among monastic administrators at all levels remains essential.
- The Seven Sappurisa-dhamma are Buddhist principles concerning the “qualities of a virtuous person,” namely: knowing causes, knowing the consequence, knowing oneself, knowing how to be temperate, knowing proper time, knowing society, and knowing individuals. These principles serve as guidelines for developing the fundamental ethical qualities of leaders and administrators, enabling sound, just, and beneficial decision-making. This aligns with the responsibilities of the Sangha, which require wisdom, prudence, and accountability in the administration of Buddhist affairs.
- The integration of Sappurisa-dhamma into the Sangha administration of Pak Phayun District, Phatthalung Province, is essential for fostering transparent and equitable governance. By applying these principles—encompassing causality, objective-driven action, self-evaluation, resource prudence, temporal appropriateness, community engagement, and stakeholder awareness—the administration can enhance its operational efficiency. This holistic approach not only strengthens the monastic institution but also ensures a sustainable and qualitative response to contemporary societal needs.
