EFFECTS OF USING THE ENGAGEMENT-BASED LEARNING AND TEACHING ON READING COMPREHENSION AND ATTITUDE TOWARD THAI LITERATURE OF PRATHOMSUKSA 6 STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the Thai literary reading comprehension ability of sixth-grade students before and after receiving Engagement-Based Learning and Teaching (EBLT), and 2) compare their attitudes toward Thai literature before and after the implementation of EBLT. This study employed a pre-experimental research design using a one-group pretest–posttest model. The sample consisted of 20 sixth-grade students from Watchainarat School, Suphan Buri Province, during the second semester of the 2025 academic year. The participants were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included EBLT lesson plans, a Thai literary reading comprehension test, and an attitude toward Thai literature questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and dependent-samples t-test.
The findings revealed that students’ Thai literary reading comprehension ability after the implementation of EBLT (M = 24.19, SD = 3.27) was significantly higher than before the intervention (M = 19.40, SD = 2.94) (t = 12.01). In addition, students’ attitudes toward Thai literature after the intervention (M = 22.50, SD = 2.47) were significantly higher than before the intervention (M = 17.54, SD = 3.24) (t = 7.15). The results indicate that Engagement-Based Learning and Teaching is an effective instructional approach for enhancing both reading comprehension and positive attitudes toward Thai literature. These outcomes contribute to the improvement of Thai literary learning and support students’ lifelong learning development.
