FACTORS INFLUENCING THE ONLINE MARKETING COMMUNICATION OF GREEN HOTELS AND THEIR IMPACT ON THAI TOURISTS' DECISION TO USE THEIR SERVICES
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the level of online marketing communication of green hotels, investigate Thai tourists’ decisions to use green hotel services, and analyze the online marketing communication factors influencing their service usage decisions. This research employed a mixed methods research design. Quantitative data were collected from 400 Thai tourists who had previously used green hotel services, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 10 managers or executives of green hotels. Research instruments consisted of a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview form. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, multiple regression analysis, and content analysis.
The findings revealed that: (1) the overall level of online marketing communication of green hotels was high ( = 4.11), with social media public relations receiving the highest mean score ( = 4.14); (2) the overall level of Thai tourists’ decision-making regarding the use of green hotel services was high ( = 4.12), with evaluation of alternatives showing the highest mean score ( = 4.15); and (3) the results of multiple regression analysis indicated that valuable content creation (β = 0.163, p = .001), two-way communication with customers (β = 0.140, p = .004), social media public relations (β = 0.139, p = .004), and digital advertising (β = 0.122, p = .012) had significant positive effects on Thai tourists’ decisions to use green hotel services. The model explained 11.90% of the variance in service usage decisions (Adjusted R² = 0.119). In contrast, influencer marketing did not have a statistically significant effect on service usage decisions (p > .05). In addition, the qualitative findings revealed that greenest hotels adopted a multi-platform communication strategy through Facebook, Instagram, websites, and LINE Official Accounts to enhance awareness and credibility regarding sustainability practices.
The new knowledge generated from this study indicates that valuable content creation is the most influential factor affecting tourists’ decisions to use green hotel services, surpassing influencer marketing. This finding differs from the prevailing digital marketing perspective that emphasizes the role of influencers in shaping consumer behavior. The results suggest that Thai tourists place greater importance on content quality, information credibility, and the communication of environmental values than on messages delivered by influential personalities.
