Abstract
This research aimed to: (1) study the concepts related to community quality of life development; (2) examine the Five Powers (Pañca Bala) as presented in Theravada Buddhist scriptures; and (3) analyze the development of quality of life through the application of the Five Powers in Makrut Subdistrict, Khok Pho District, Pattani Province. This study employed a qualitative research approach and field research methodology. Data were collected from Buddhist documents, related concepts and previous studies, as well as in-depth interviews with key informants, including community leaders, monks, and local residents. The data were analyzed using descriptive content analysis.
The research findings revealed that: 1) The study of concepts related to community quality of life development found that improving the quality of life involves enhancing people’s well-being in physical, mental, social, and economic aspects. It emphasizes participation, capacity building, and strengthening the community in order to achieve sustainable self-reliance. This concept is consistent with Buddhist principles that focus on the development of both the mind and wisdom for a balanced and happy life. 2) The study of the Five Powers (Pañca Bala) in Theravada Buddhist scriptures found that the Five Powers are important Buddhist principles that strengthen mental stability. They consist of Faith (Saddha), Effort (Viriya), Mindfulness (Sati), Concentration (Samadhi), and Wisdom (Pañna). These principles promote self-development in both mental and intellectual aspects and can be appropriately applied to daily life and social development. 3) The analysis of quality of life development through the application of the Five Powers in Makrut Subdistrict, Khok Pho District, Pattani Province found that the application of the Five Powers contributed to the development of the community’s quality of life in terms of mental well-being, economy, and life security. Faith, mindfulness, and concentration helped community members maintain peace of mind and social harmony, while effort and wisdom encouraged diligence, work planning, and appropriate income management. As a result, the community became more peaceful and stable in daily living.
