AN ANCIENT BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES OF WAT KAI TIA TALINGCHAN DISTRICT, BANGKOK

Abstract

This thesis has two objectives: 1) to study the conservation of ancient manuscripts according to the guidelines of the Fine Arts Department, 2) to study the conservation of ancient Buddhist manuscripts at Wat Kai Tia, Taling Chan, Bangkok. The research methodology was documentary works using descriptive analysis.

             The results found that the management of palm-leaf manuscript conservation by the Fine Arts Department has a survey process by survey team coordinating with the caretakers and cooperate. The head or the caretakers, and the villagers must be a part of conservation, maintenance and utilization after the survey was complete. This encourages the head or place owner and the villagers aware of the value of palm-leaf manuscripts, their value to society as historical evidence, their value as cultural heritage, their academic value, and value as ancient manuscripts that contain Buddhist teachings. The conservation and continuation of ancient Buddhist manuscripts at Wat Kai Tia, Taling Chan, Bangkok has been carried out systematically, namely, the preservation, and continuation of the ancient manuscripts discovered at Wat Kai Tia, supervised by a committee of monks and laity, problem solving, and dissemination to society. The temple has improved the landscape to facilitate study and is an important source of learning about manuscripts in Bangkok. Learners can apply the knowledge from Buddhist scriptures of Wat Kai Tia to further develop the mind, people and Thai society.
