FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH LITERACY AMONG THE ELDERLY IN NONG NO SUB-DISTRICT, MAHA SARAKHAM PROVINCE

Abstract
This research article aims to: 1)Study environmental health literacy among the elderly in Nong No Subdistrict, Maha Sarakham Province. 2)Investigate the factors related to environmental health literacy among the elderly in Nong No Subdistrict, Maha Sarakham Province. The sample consisted of 300 individuals, selected using multi-stage random sampling. Data were collected between January and May 2025. The research instrument was a questionnaire used for data collection. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, standard deviation, maximum, and minimum, as well as inferential statistics, specifically Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
The study found that:
1) The elderly had a moderate level of environmental health literacy, with a mean score of 1.98 (S.D. = 0.68).
2) Factors significantly associated with environmental health literacy among the elderly included age, body mass index (BMI), knowledge, and attitudes (p < 0.05).
Relevant agencies, such as local administrative organizations and health promoting hospitals, should continuously organize educational activities on environmental health management for the elderly and their caregivers. These activities should be implemented through systematic plans and tangible environmental improvements, supported by community-based care involving community leaders and village health volunteers. This would help ensure effective and safe environmental health management for the elderly in all dimensions, ultimately contributing to an improved quality of life in the future.
