PLANNING GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPING ROAD FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION MODELS TO ENHANCE THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OF LOGISTICS SERVICE PROVIDERS IN EASTERN THAILAND

Abstract
This research aims to explore strategies for developing road freight transportation models to enhance the competitive advantage of logistics service providers in the Eastern region. The research objectives are: (1) to study the issues in road freight transportation for logistics service providers in the Eastern region, (2) to study the impact of these issues on the road transportation management of logistics service providers in the Eastern region, (3) to study the current road freight transportation models in the logistics industry in the Eastern region, and (4) to explore strategies for improving road freight transportation models to enhance the competitive advantage of logistics service providers in the Eastern region. Data were collected from a sample of 400 respondents, and statistical analysis using regression analysis was conducted.
The research findings indicate that, for objective (1), the main issue faced by logistics service providers is the lack of knowledge and budget for adopting technology (88.1%), along with management and legal challenges that hinder operations. For objective (2), the impact of these issues has led to increased costs and reduced competitiveness, with rising fuel, labor, and vehicle maintenance costs (91.1%), resulting in delayed and inaccurate services. For objective (3), most providers use a small-scale transportation model (83.2%) and continue to rely on traditional management methods (70.3%), lacking knowledge in logistics and technology. For objective (4), development strategies include adopting technologies such as real-time tracking systems and Big Data usage, along with continuous staff training and collaboration among small-scale operators to improve competitiveness.
