SELF-GOVERNING PROVINCE: DIRECTION OF THAI LOCAL GOVERNMENT REFORM
Main Article Content
Abstract
The direction of Thai local government reform is critical for empowering communities by decentralizing authority and allowing tailored solutions to local needs. It promotes greater accountability, public participation, and sustainable development across regions. This paper aims to explore the Self-governing Province: Direction of Thai Local Government Reform. The results found that Thai local government reform's goal of creating self-governing provinces is to increase local autonomy, strengthen fiscal independence, and improve public participation. While these reforms are viewed as critical for making local government more responsive and effective, they face challenges in ensuring equitable development and increasing local administrative capacity. The transition to a more decentralized, self-governing system reflects a long-term commitment to reforming Thai governance. In conclusion, the Thai local government reform seeks to increase local autonomy, fiscal independence, and public participation in order to achieve more responsive and effective governance. However, it faces challenges in ensuring equitable development and increasing local administrative capacity for long-term success.
