Abstract

The research article aimed to 1) determine guidelines for management of anemia in primary students in Wichian Buri District, Phetchabun Province, and 2) evaluate the guidelines for management of anemia in primary students. This research was 2 phases. Phase 1 involved qualitative research with a select group of 33 experts as key informants, and phase 2 involved quantitative research with a sample size of 44 individuals determined using G*Power Version 3.1.9.4. Data was collected in pairs between 44 anemic students and 44 parents using simple random sampling by lottery. The research tools included: 1) an interview guide for studying the context of anemia management operations, 2) an interview for determining guidelines, 3) a behavior questionnaire, and 4) a satisfaction questionnaire. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis, and quantitative data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and dependent t-tests.

         The research results found that:

         1) The guidelines for managing anemia in primary students consist of five steps: 1) Establishing a working group; 2) Gathering data; 3) Defining outcomes, goals, agreements, and planning the implementation; 4) Implementing the plan; and 5) Evaluating and summarizing the results.

         2) The results of using guidelines showed that the percentage of packed red blood cells in students before implementation was 31.65 percent, and after was 34.78 percent, a statistically significant increase at the 0.05 level. Parents' care behaviors for students with anemia were at a moderate level before the training ( =3.09, S.D.=0.60) and after the training at the highest level ( =4.53, S.D.=0.21), an increase that was statistically significant at the 0.05 level, and a high level of satisfaction with the anemia management guidelines ( =4.05, S.D.=0.32).
