THE STUDY OF TEACHING PROCESS OF EUPHONIUM ACCORDING TO PROFESSOR BOONYARIT KITTAWEEPITAK GUIDELINES
Main Article Content
Abstract
This qualitative study aimed to (1) investigate the euphonium transmission process according to Boonyarit Kittaweepitak’s guidelines and (2) develop a manual based on those guidelines. The informants consisted of Boonyarit Kittaweepitak as the knowledge transmitter and five learners who had received direct and continuous euphonium instruction from him for at least two years. Two structured interview forms were used as research instruments. The instruments were examined by three experts, and all items obtained an Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) value of 1.00. Data were collected through document review and structured interviews and analyzed using content analysis, interpretation, and analytic induction.
The findings revealed that: (1) the euphonium transmission process was based on clear principles and developmental goals while allowing teaching methods, content, difficulty levels, and learning activities to be adjusted according to each learner’s background, physical characteristics, abilities, problems, development, and learning context. Seven key findings were synthesized: establishing fundamental skills; adapting teaching methods to individual learners; using exercises for problem solving and skill development; encouraging learner participation; assessing progress to guide further development; extending learning from individual practice to music-making with others; and adapting teaching formats to different contexts. The process emphasized learners’ understanding of principles and their ability to apply them to problem solving and self-development. (2) The developed manual consisted of five chapters. Expert review showed that, among seven format criteria, six obtained an IOC value of 1.00 and one obtained 0.67, while all nine content criteria obtained an IOC value of 1.00. The manual was subsequently revised according to the experts’ recommendations before the final version was produced.
