Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) examine the desirable characteristics of school administrators; 2) compare these characteristics as classified by gender, age, and work experience; and 3) explore guidelines for developing such characteristics. The study employed a mixed-methods approach. For the quantitative phase, the sample consisted of 291 teachers from private schools under the Office of the Private Education Commission of Rayong Province. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while inferential statistics — t-test and F-test — were used for hypothesis testing. For the qualitative phase, data were gathered from five experts through structured interviews and the data were analyzed by using the content analysis.

          The findings revealed that

          1) The desirable characteristics of school administrators were rated at a high level overall. Ranked from highest to lowest, the dimensions were: personality, human relations, leadership, ethics and morality, and knowledge and competency, respectively.

          2) Hypothesis testing indicated that teachers' perceptions of all five dimensions did not differ significantly based on gender, age, or work experience.

          3) Regarding development guidelines, the study identified the following approaches: training in ethics and good governance, mindfulness practice and emotional intelligence development, lifelong learning through digital upskilling and reskilling, participatory management, and reflective learning from practical experience to foster transformational leadership.
