ACTIVE LEARNING AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF 21ST-CENTURY SKILLS AMONG LEARNERS

Abstract
This academic article aims to analyze the concepts, principles, and significance of active learning in developing students’ 21st century skills within the context of rapid global changes in society, economy, and technology that profoundly affect education systems. The article presents theoretical foundations and instructional approaches that support active learning, emphasizing learning models that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and self-directed learning. It also discusses the outcomes of active learning in fostering key characteristics of 21st century learners and examines its suitability, limitations, and challenges in the context of Thai education. Furthermore, policy and practical recommendations are proposed for teachers, school administrators, and curriculum development to support effective implementation. The article concludes that active learning is a vital pedagogical approach for enhancing educational quality and preparing learners to adapt successfully to the changing demands of society and the future workforce in the 21st century.
