TEACHER PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS NEEDS FOR DEVELOPING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE COMPETENCY IN LEARNING MANAGEMENT: A QUALITATIVE STUDY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to (1) examine the needs for developing artificial intelligence (AI) competency for learning management among teacher professional students, and (2) synthesize guidelines for developing such competency based on qualitative research findings in response to the current educational context. The participants consisted of 30 teacher professional students selected through purposive sampling. An open-ended questionnaire was employed as the research instrument. Data was analyzed using thematic content analysis.
The research findings revealed that:
1) The needs for developing AI competency for learning management among teacher professional students encompassed five key dimensions: (1) the need to develop fundamental knowledge and conceptual understanding of artificial intelligence, (2) the need to enhance practical skills in applying artificial intelligence to learning management, (3) obstacles and limitations in developing AI-related competency, (4) concerns regarding ethics and responsibility in the use of artificial intelligence, and (5) expectations for the development of teacher professional curricula to strengthen AI competency.
2) Based on the synthesis of qualitative findings, guidelines for developing AI competency for learning management among teacher professional students were identified. These guidelines consisted of: (1) developing foundational knowledge and understanding of artificial intelligence for teachers, (2) enhancing practical AI application skills through experiential and practice-based learning, (3) promoting ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence, and (4) systematically integrating artificial intelligence competency into teacher professional curricula.
