FOLLOWING A NEW MONK TO LEARN DHAMMA
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the life of the Buddha, ordination means abandoning the lay life to focus on studying and practicing Dhamma seriously. It is a training to be diligent, patient, and to let go of defilements, which will lead to freedom from suffering. Therefore, new monks must study and learn both the Dhamma and the Vinaya in order to be able to live as monks completely and to create the greatest benefit for themselves and others. Purpose of the book The book “Following New Monks to Learn Dhamma” is a collection of Dhamma sermons delivered to novice monks (new monks) by Somdej Phra Buddhaghosacariya (P.A. Payutto) to be a guideline for those who have just entered the monkhood to understand the basic principles of Dhamma and Vinaya. This book is not only a sermon about Buddhism, but also a tool to help new monks realize their duties in practicing Dhamma principles. It is also a guideline for correct and appropriate behavior.
